The Furgin Persuasion

Wobin:

I make no claims of people of the furgin persuasion.

Carlfish:

The Furgin Persuasion would make a good hipster band name.

Dymos:

The first album by that band can be called "A new beginning".

Dymos:

With classic hits like "Oh Jaina, you're so tall" and "Where are we going?"

Dymos:

And a hidden track called "Combat log".

08Dec2014
Wobin:

I admit a lot of my rant towards that guy is because I think he’s an arse.

Jirra:

What do you have against arses?

Wobin:

They’re fine as long as they don’t take up the entire body.

08Dec2014

Tony Abbott has the personality of a wet Speedo.

Sairel
01Dec2014

Cue a mad rush for imagination-bleach

jedi:

[The latest Hunger Games film] felt like it was setting the scene for the next movie. But we all kinda knew the scene anyway.

Carlfish:

I haven't been within several miles of the books. But I imagine at some point Kevin Bacon shows up and there's a dance-off?

jedi:

Yeah, and he's naked.

Carlfish:

"I call it my Mockingjay"

01Dec2014

Well, that's one thing we've got.

Sairel:

Anyone want to group for a random dungeon?

Silerene:

I wouldn’t object!

Sairel:

Disclosure: I’m not level 100 yet.

Atlassia:

I don’t think levels 96 and 100 have any instances in common.

Silerene:

It is indeed the case that there’s nothing in common :(

Atlassia:

What about Breakfast at Tiffany’s? If I recall, I think you both kinda liked it.

21Nov2014

Revolution!

Jirra:

Maybe it’s finally time to rise up and overthrow our Furgin overlord.

lolzcat:

He’s only a dwarf. I’m sure we could throw him pretty far.

Carlfish:

I thought we were an autonomous collective?

Jirra:

I thought we were a furginocracy?

Carlfish:

Actually, the guild is run by a shadowy cabal of healers, through a figurehead tanking government.

lolzcat:

Rise up, DPS comrades! The time of damage dealing proletariat has come! We shall overthrow the healing bourgeoisie!

* lolzcat

looks around for support.

Carlfish:

“Sorry, too busy standing in fire.”

21Nov2014

If you ask me to function before 10am, there may be side-effects.

Carl, the Mutable fish
21Nov2014

But where does he see himself in 5 years?

Jirra:

I have a lot of respect for a candidate who will own up to their weaknesses in an interview.

Dymos:

Sure, but what about people who don’t have any weaknesses?

jedi:

The Flash has no weakness.

Wobin:

The Flash’s weakness is a relatively short attention span.

Carlfish:

The Flash’s main weakness is he doesn’t run on the iPhone.

21Nov2014

Obi-Wan Homeopobi

* Carlfish

dissolves a very small amount of jedi in water, then dilutes him repeatedly.

Jirra:

Carlfish: DON’T DO THAT! He’ll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!

09Oct2014

Not you, too

Furgin:

Luke isn’t coming tonight.

Phreakachu:

OK, well I shall be a healer today then.

Carlfisch:

o/` We shall be healers / just for one day o/`

Furgin:

I HATE U2, MAN

Atlassia:

I never got my unwanted U2 album.

Carlfisch:

Me neither.

Confluence:

I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.

28Sept2014

Meanwhile, on WoW…

Phreakachu:

Which keyboard did you get, Furgin?

Furgin:

Razer Blackwidow ULTIMATE

Phreakachu:

Nice.

Carlfish:

I got the Razer Blackwidow Penultimate, but I think I need to upgrade.

23Sept2014

It is not insignificant. I used to think the same thing until I actually measured it.

dennilan
22Sept2014

iBallOfString

Carlfish:

I ordered an iPhone with a spare charger. Three days later Apple ships me a package. It's just the charger.

Carlfish:

I swear, the company is staffed by cats.

Carlfish:

"Let's play with him a while, see what he does!"

Dymos:

"purrrrrrrrrruurrrrrrrrrrruurrrrrruurrrr"

Carlfish:

Exactly. You can't stay mad at it.

Dymos:

Right up until it scratches you in the face.

Dymos:

And bites your hand.

Carlfish:

It can't help it, that's just how it is.

Dymos:

But then it licks your hand and makes you love it again.

16Sept2014

The people in the next row are arguing about changing the gravitational constant of the Earth and I’m wondering how long I should wait before reporting them to someone.

I mean, we are at a heightened terror alert status

Jirra, alert but somewhat alarmed.
16Sept2014

Supply-Your-Own Punchline

Dymos:

I love using [Multi-Shot] as a hunter. If there are heaps of targets, it looks like a massive fan of arrows coming out of you.

Jirra:

I used to be a massive fan of arrows…

16Sept2014

Inside the dog, it's too dark to read.

Jirra:

I bought chicken wings from the local chicken shop for $2 a kilo and cooked them and there’s something about them that’s just undefinably wrong.

dennilan:

I think they’re supposed to be for pets, right?

Jirra:

A kilo of raw chicken meat would be a really boring pet

16Sept2014

Heap Space, the Final Frontier

Jedi:

With the amount of intelligence and rigour in all the federation’s processes, I would assume every person in QA would love Star Trek.

Neko:

Then again, consider their fail-deadly consoles. I wouldn’t want to work with any system where finding a bug sets off an explosion in the computer I’m working on.

Jirra:

That’s fine if it only happens in dev mode.

Neko:

These sort of mission-critical systems need to work perfectly in an Enterprise environment!

11Aug2014

The linked article on duck penises is also quite interesting.

Carlfish
11Aug2014

Note to self: When organising a meeting between you and someone else, remember to invite the other person to the meeting.

Jirra, who really should start a Life Hacks blog.
24Jul2014

Ice bomb, 3 o'clock.

Jirra:

It’s sad, but I get so much satisfaction from that stage of defrosting the freezer where the giant chunks of ice start coming out.

Carlfish:

That’s not sad at all. That’s normal!

lolzcat:

I think our love of watching big chunks of ice melt comes from Sindragosa

Carlfish:

Well, it beats being stuck in the ice block waiting for someone to defrost you.

Carlfish:

Just make sure you run around your fridge to dodge the ice bombs.

* lolzcat

imagines jirra laughing evilly at her freezer, shouting “YOUR PATHETIC REFRIGERATION BETRAAAYS YOU!!!”

24Jul2014

Tumblr is better in the original Klingon

Carlfish:

Jirra, you totally should write your series of blogs.

Jirra:

It's on my to-do list. After “learn Klingon”.

Carlfish:

If you write the blog posts in Klingon, you might not get the traction you were after.

Carlfish:

Also, the Klingon phrase for Quality Assurance is “making sure they are dead.”

Jirra:

Today is a good day to test.

14Jul2014

One-two three-four-five, six-seven eight nine ten, eleven twelve.

Jirra:

So there are THREE areas of badness!

Jirra:

The tests, the test environment, the product, and Unicorn. FOUR! FOUR areas of badness!

Jirra:

The tests, the test environment, the product, Unicorn and HAL. FIVE!

clepetit:

ANB Episode #3481: The one where Jirra turns into The Count from Sesame Street

14Jul2014

Monk healing

Wobin:

Monk healing is mega weird.

jedi:

I don't think it's as weird as it used to be. There's not really a need for ‘fistweaving’ any more.

Wobin:

Oh, fistweaving hasn't been part of the rotation since well before I left.

Furgin:

…

Carlfish:

“fistweaving”

Carlfish:

Fistweaving.

Furgin:

I should take off that IRC notification whenever anyone says fistweaving.

24Jun2014

What do you call it when a resto druid goes temporarily offline? A relog!

Jirra, after a semester studying at the Lolzcat School of WoW Jokes
03Jun2014

Void Zone

Carlfish:

What’s a good gender-neutral alternative to “no-mans land”?

Jirra:

No-go zone?

Jedi:

Shattrath?

Virtualwolf:

Abyss of mental anguish?

Carlfish:

I’m saving “Abyss of Mental Anguish” for my first metal album.

03Jun2014
furgin:

Why is Mockito being shit?

dennilan:

You are trying to stub a final method.

Carlfish:

YOU WOULDN’T STUB A CAR

03Jun2014

ShipIt, 4:20 edition.

* gilgad

quietly wonders if Jirra has spent a bit too long in the bliss… er… chillout room.

jirra:

It was the only way to reach the necessary levels of mind-freedom to break free of traditional QA thought and preconceptions, man

gilgad:

I thought QA didn’t have traditional thought. Thats how they break stuff. Mind like water, etc.

jirra:

Mind like a non-Newtonian fluid. It only flows freely when it’s not under pressure.

02Jun2014

DefenITstration

lolzcat:

Do you think IT will accept “Because I want to throw my current laptop out the window” as a satisfactory reason for upgrading my laptop?

Jirra:

BTCYS.

Jirra:

“Because I threw my laptop out of the window” is a stronger argument.

* lolzcat

becomes the change, and throws his laptop out of the window.

lolzcat:

Wait... these windows don’t open.

Carlfish:

“Also, I need a new window.”

27May2014
lolzcat:

Yay for UI redesigns that mean rewriting a whole bunch of docs

lolzcat:

I love UI redesigns. Love love love

virtualwolf:

I'm sensing a bit of sarcasm there, lolz

lolzcat:

LOOOOOOOOVEEEE

27May2014

Right-Hand Drive

jedi:

So confusing with the whole “other side of the road” thing.

furgin:

Every time I walked back to the car I was all like “SOMEONE STOLE MY STEERING WHEEL.”

09May2014

<> { %$hire }

Jirra:

I wrote three pages of notes for this interview and I can't read any of them.

Neko:

Did you write them in Perl?

07May2014

A twist on an old classic

jirra:

They will do anything we say.

lolzcat:

"Make me a sandwich"

Neko:

What? No…

lolzcat:

Neko: sudo make me a sandwich

Neko:

lolzcat is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

02May2014

Willing Suspension of Disbelief

Neko:

Does the [World of Warcraft] movie have me in it? Because I'll be saying "I don't have enough energy", "that isn't ready yet", "I can't use that right now", and "I'm out of range" a lot.

Jirra:

I'll be the throwaway character that dies screaming "YOUR BOSS I HAVE TEN STACKS TAUNT NOW!!!" in the teaser opening.

24Apr2014

On the Wrathion Quest Chain

Worgentleman:

What is he going to use all this trillium for I don’t even

Jirra:

He’s building a house.

Worgentleman:

Oh well, gee, why didn’t he just ask me for 40 Living Steel then, if he wants the blingiest house there ever was.

Jirra:

A living house? Are you crazy?

Worgentleman:

Yeah, maybe not the whole house.

Worgentleman:

Just the living room.

24Apr2014

Dot dot dot…

jirra:

I’m very happy with the new skills template we’ve come up with in QA. It makes performance reviews really easy.

furgin:

Is there a dot?

jirra:

oh no

furgin:

there should be three dots, dot dot dot

lolzcat:

A PERFORMANCE REVIEW BY AXMAN13!!

furgin:

ALL I CAN UPGRADE IS STRANTH!!

lolzcat:

YOU CANT CONTRAIL ANYTHING!!

24Apr2014
Dymos:

I used to do the Spider education talk at the Austrlian Reptile Park

Jirra:

Did the spiders learn anything?

Dymos:

I taught them how humans always like to poke them with sticks so they’ll stand up on their rear legs

14Apr2014

Nail Polish

Jirra:

My Dad always told me that if I ever wanted to attract boys, I'd have to stop biting my nails.

Carlfish:

That's why I bite my nails.

jedi:

That's why I attract boys.

14Apr2014

My Little Print Job

dave:

That awkward feeling of realising I hadn’t been able to print anything because it was going to the wrong printer.

dave:

Someone on level 2 has been getting a lot of ponies lately.

12Mar2014

If I was in a threesome with Furgin we would just argue about when was the right time to tankswap.

Jirra
12Mar2014

Great Minds…

dennilan:

You’re missing the point of my question. What’s the best way for me to cause trouble tomorrow?

Jirra:

Show up naked

furgin:

Turn up to work naked

furgin:

LOL. We must both be thinking about denni naked. This is awkward.

dennilan:

How is that awkward? I think about the both of you together n… oh right.

Anyone else likely to play Titanfall?

It didn't really grab me, in the beta.

Carlfish:

That's a Scala operator, right?

Carlfish:

“Lift this function into a monadic context, forget about it for a week, then find it behind the couch cushions.”

03Mar2014

Haha awesome, it’s a Perl script. I should dig into it at some point.

Famous last words from Virtualwolf.
11Feb2014

Send the pet in to tank first

Sign on the wall at the local club:

$9 cocktails every day. Limited range.

Furgin:

“Limited range?” So you have to stand at least 10 feet from the bar to order them?

Furgin:

“I’m sorry sir, you’re only 9 feet away; that’ll be $12 please”

11Feb2014

It’s Monday, it’s time to delete my clone and make a new one.

Jirra Does Stack Ranking

* Jirra

goes back to the pile of QA candidates

clepetit:

Wait… the actual candidates are in a pile?

Jirra:

Yes

Jirra:

The bad ones complain that they can't do anything because they are in a pile

Jirra:

The OK ones contort themselves so they can get work done while in a pile

Jirra:

The good ones say “Why are we in a pile, this is stupid” and get out of the pile

clepetit:

that makes me rethink the whole "What's the worst that could happen" viewpoint when looking at applying for a job

git for Dummies

furgin:

How do I change a git commit message that has been pushed to bitbucket?

Carlfish:

You change it locally, then use a force push to change the history on bitbucket.

Carlfish:

Then everyone on your team shows up at your desk with pitchforks and burning torches.

furgin:

Why is it such a big deal?

Carlfish:

Because you're changing the past. Do it wrong, and you end up on stage playing guitar while your family vanishes from a photograph, desperately hoping your parents get back together before it's too late.

Dymos:

All while trying to stop your mom from sleeping with you.

furgin:

That's OK, because at the same time I invent rock'n'roll

jedi:

Great Scott Farquhar!
