I, Robot.

Neko:

I would love a job like that. Just ride around on a giant roomba all day.

Jirra:

It'd get boring after the first 5 mins.

Neko:

But I'd get to travel in exciting new directions, and work on mobile platforms.

lolzcat:

I think after a while, you'd find that your job sucks.

Recursion

Dymos:

"Since you will be applying for the L-1 visa under the blanket L visa petition, you will be required to pay a $500.00 fraud prevention and detection fee at the time of your visa interview in the consulate."

Dymos:

Why does it cost $500 to prevent and/or detect fraud?

lolzcat:

"Thanks for your $500. We're happy to inform you that you are being defrauded right now"

The Olden Days

Jirra:

The other day as we walked past the CornX I tried to remember where Support was, and failed.

Jirra:

JIRA was at the end of the upper floor

virtualwolf:

Support moved to where Confluence was.

Jirra:

Founders were at the other end of the upper floor, near the kitchen

moonburn:

And I replaced the hand soap in the gents with maple syrup.

Phreakazoid:

... wait, what?

Playing with the mouse is OK, but I’ll dust off the warthog tonight and give it a go with a good stick.

Play them off, keyboard cat

lolzcat:

Turns out that spilling water on your mac keyboard does surprisingly little damage to it.

Sounds like a job for battleping

Atlassia:

(In Vietnam): I get some kind of three-hour delay when logging in; whatever time it is for me, it’s three hours later for you.

Lolzfu:

It would take some advanced planning to play with a 3-hour lag.

Worgentleman:

YOUR BOSS… in about 180 minutes.

Lolzfu:

PULLING IN 10800, 10799, 10798…

Khaaaaaaaan!

[gilgad@ATLASSIN-IN.ear2.Dallas1.Level3.net] has quit [Client exited]

Carlfish:

Every time I see that hostname, I wonder about in-ear Atlassians.

Neko:

Atlassian does not discriminate; it wants to promote a rich diversity of men, women, various races and creeds, and of course, brain slugs.

Carlfish:

Build with heart and brain slugs.

Neko:

I think they should rename the "All Hands" meetings though. It's a bit insensitive.

Meanwhile, on WoW

Worgentleman:

Shouldn’t you be in Poland?

Atlassia:

No, I’m in the other Poland. The one in Asia.

Worgentleman:

Pho-land?

Atlassia:

That one.

19Jun2015

I think I missed some important context.

"This reminds me of one of Chris Mountford's ShipIt projects to add incentivisation to contributing bugfixes for a project via BitCoin."

Thread Safety

Jirra:

lol. “JIRA’s two Sydney architects are going to be on leave together. I mean: concurrently.”

Carlfish:

Surely as architects, they should know how to handle concurrency?

Jirra:

Spuddy has a great plan for how he and Mark can be on leave concurrently, and we should be able to deliver it in 2025.

Just bee-cause

Carlfish:

Meanwhile, we're watching The Flash, and the entire premise of this episode is

Carlfish:

I'M COVERED IN ROBOT BEES

Jirra:

I'm not sure if Carl's second line was a continuation of that sentence or an urgent change of topic.

<7 minutes later>

furgin:

Should we contact the authorities?

furgin:

"HELLO 911?" "My friend Charles somewhere in SF is covered in robotic bees!"

Safe Hex

furgin:

FUCKING 2FA

Jirra:

"Before you get into bed with me, please verify your identity using this mobile app..."

furgin:

"Someone, maybe you, has requested access to sleep with this person. Please reply to confirm your intentions or ignore if you did not request this."

Jirra:

"IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING NASTY!"

dave:

That something nasty could be a man in the middle... attack.

Perl is expressive. If you want to express yourself as “I’m an asshole that doesn’t care about the future maintainer of this”, go right ahead.

I bought a new skirt. The label said, “HAND WASH ONLY, COLD WATER, DO NOT TUMBLE-DRY”. So I chucked it into the washing machine and then tumble-dried it. The skirt is fine but the label is now unreadable.

Jirra, demonstrating truth in advertising.
06Jan2015

Meanwhile on WoW…

Atlassia:

I’m doing a quest that requires me to assassinate a tree. I feel kind of bad about it.

Worgentleman:

Maybe it’s a bad tree…

Worgentleman:

…with a shady past.

My New Year’s Resolution is Won’t Fix

Jirra, who secretly suspects that at the end of 2015 she’ll discover the resolution was “Timed Out”
